The Railway History Group holds occasional sessions online using Zoom usually on a Wednesday evening at 7.30pm.

The final talk before our summer break will be on Wednesday 29th April when the subject will be using various freely available websites that will make travelling by train in both Britain and overseas more interesting and sometimes less stressful!

Future talks in the autumn, probably restarting in September, will include

  1. A visit to Southampton in summer 1968 shortly after the line to Bournemouth was electrified. The proposed date will be emailed to group members closer to the time.

2. Travelling on the West Highland Lines to Oban, Fort William and Mallaig in the late 1960s behind diesel locomotives that have long been scrapped.

3. Everything you need to know about the Trans Pennine Route Upgrade. This is without the biggest engineering upgrade of the railway in the North of England and will directly affect services that many of us use to travel by train.

4. A journey in the South West of England using old timetables to research what the trains recorded in a "spotters" notebook were.

5. Modelling actual railway locations to bring back how the railway used to operate. This will look at both locations in Britain and Germany.
