Group email: Art Appreciation group
When: First Thursday of the Month - 10:00 am-12:00 pm
Venue: COMMUNITY CARE CENTRE
Cost: £1 towards venue hire.

Update: October 2026 - The Art Appreciation group is currently between courses.

We expect to start the new course on Thursday April 1st 2027. This will explore the main Genres or Subject Matter in art history – History, Religion, Landscape, Portraiture, Everyday Scenes (Genre) and Still Life. The wide-ranging nature of the course will give members plenty of scope to contribute through short talks on artists or paintings relevant to the subject matter of the session.

Our aim for the group, as in the past, is to encourage as many members to contribute talks as we can fit into a two-hour session, usually four to five 15–20-minute talks by different speakers. This results in a variety of presentations and avoids long lectures. The comments arising from the talks have resulted in some interesting discussions.

We will be looking for about 30 interested members to join the course. We will then invite them to a Planning Meeting on Thursday 4th March 2027 when hopefully people will volunteer to give talks on artists/paintings relating to the course.

Cost:   £1 towards venue hire, paid in advance, probably £6 or£7 pounds depending on the number of course sessions.

This group is open to all members - for more information contact Sue Tapper

Leaders: Sue Tapper, Diane Bush and Tony Daniels
