Have you ever wondered who your Ancestors are, and where they come from; whether your family legends are true; have you any family mysteries; and do you want to know what stories some your Ancestors might tell?
The Family History Group are offering a monthly six~part course starting the 20th May from 1.30 – 3.00 pm in the Community Care Centre, Stokesley meeting the third Wednesday of each month.
FIRST MEETING (20th May 2026)
Introductions and a resume of why each member want to start their Family History. Followed by a demonstration of how to get started using on-line resources and how to buy certificates. Getting started by researching family stories from the older members of the family and possible DNA tests of older generations.
SECOND MEETING (17th June 2026)
All Family History Resources including the Library and other free resources. A demonstration on using the Censuses from 1841-1939.
There will be no meetings in July and August
THIRD MEETING (16th September 2026)
Making out a Family Tree/Genealogy back to c. 1800. Family Tree Makers. How much of the Family Tree have members filled in? Has anyone got stuck and needs help?
FOURTH MEETING (21st October 2026)
Filling in the Gaps: Family History and a Social History, Maps, Newspapers, Military Records, Prison Records, Probate, Archives, Graveyards, Land Deeds etc.
FIFTH MEETING (18th November 2026)
Parish Records, Bishops Transcripts, Wills, Taxes going back to the mid-1500s. How to look for possible moneyed Ancestors who might have stories to tell and occasionally even longer family trees.
SIXTH MEETING (date to be confirmed)
DNA Companies and how to use and cross reference DNA results. Winding up with how far everyone has got to in filling in their family trees up to c.1800 and whether they fulfilled their goals.
