Philosophy is an activity which uses the human capacity for rational thought to pose and attempt to answer fundamental questions about the universe and our place in it.

Philosophy uses reasoning to explore, define and understand the issues; why things are the way they are, how best should we live our lives and many others. We are continuing our study of the history of ideas from the Ancient Greek Philosophers to the modern world.

This gives us an opportunity to examine issues from different perspectives. We see the importance of challenging, criticising and analysing ideas as a means of refining them and through discussion and debate, coming up with new and different ones. Over the next six months, we are focusing on Europe emerging from a thousand years of the Middle Ages with the Renaissance, the Rise of Science and the Age of Reason.

You don't need to have extensive knowledge to join the group, just an open, questioning and unbiased mind.
